Dialogue I: The Art of Enlightenment – The History of an Exhibition
Date : April 2nd, 2011, 9am to 12pm
The first forum describes how the exhibition “The Art of the Enlightenment” came about. It also introduces visitors to the sites of the collections from which the exhibited artworks were taken and explores the reasons for choosing this exhibition theme. The forum additionally offers an insight into how the theme of the exhibition was conceived, divided into different sections and organized, and examines the international cooperation between the National Museum of China and the three German museums. The aim is to present the genesis of the exhibition, to describe the challenges and requirements inherent in such a major international cultural project and to portray how the Chinese and German partners worked together to plan and design the exhibition.
