State Historical Museum, Russia

The State Historical Museum, situated in the heart of the Russian capital - in the Red Square - is one of the most well-known and significant museums in Russia. Founded in 1872 by the edict of Emperor Alexander II. In 1921 when undergoing a number of reorganizations both in the field of its collections and structure.Inits current form the State Historical Museum opened its doors to thepublic in 1997 after extensive and prolonged renewal which took about 11 year and finally rest or edits original look, designed as early as in the late 19th century. Thirty five halls of permanent exposition cover not only a thousand years of Russian history, but also the history of north-eastern Eurasia civilizations from the early Paleolithic Age to the present. In the museum there are annually held about 20 temporary exhibitions of objects from its own collections, as well as from the collections of other Russian and foreign museums. Except for the Main building, the State Historical Museum now includes the following sites: St. Basil's Cathedral, the Chambers of Romanov boyars and the museum of Patriotic War of 1812.
The museum collection, unique in its content and size with a number of objects and documents, reaching about 5 million artefacts and 14 million sheets respectively, is building a 1/12 part of the whole museum fund of the Russian Federation and can be considered as one of the biggest and multifarious collections in the world. Among the museum objects there are artefacts of paleontology, history of science and technology, archeology and history from ancient times to the present day, masterpieces of painting, drawing, sculpture, decorative arts, religion, literature, music, theatre arts, and architecture.
From the day of its foundation, the State Historical Museum has been not only a storage area for numerous artefacts and monuments, but also the largest scientific and educational center. In 2022 the museum is celebrating its 150 anniversary.

Dr. Alexey Levykin born in 1959 in Moscow; doctor of historical sciences, leading specialist in the field of antique Russian and foreign arms; director of the Federal State-Financed Entity of Culture “The State Historical Museum”, a chair of the Scientific Council of the State Historical museum, a member of the Presidium of the Russian Historical Society, a member of the Presidium of the Council of Museums in Russia, a member of the Heraldic Council at the President of the Russian Federation, a member of the Council on the State Cultural policy at the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, a member of the expert Council at the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, a member of the Russian Military Historical Society and a member of the Presidium of the ICOM in Russia. He was study in Lomonosov Moscow State University. He has been in V.I. Lenin’s central Museum and in the Department of Armory in the Moscow Kremlin State Historical and Cultural Museum and Heritage Site.
He was awarded with a number of state awards, among which there are the following: Second-class medal of the Order of Merit for the Motherland; Honorary Mention by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation; Prize given by the Government of Russia for cultural achievements, Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation; Honorary Mention by the mayor of Moscow; Order of Friendship.
Dr. Levykin is the author of such monographs as «Martial Ceremonies and Regalia of Russian Tsars», «The Imperial Rjust-Chamber. The Moscow Kremlin», as well as a number of articles devoted to the history of military science and the organization of manufacture of arms in Russia in XVI-XVIII centuries. Dr. Levykin is as well an editor-in-chief of a series of thematic catalogues and catalogues of full collections of the Moscow Kremlin Museums(The Carriages; English fire-arms; Glass and Porcelain Collections).
