Dialogue Ⅳ:Enlightenment and Modern Age

November 17th , 2011 - Dialogue IV: Enlightenment and the Modern Age is held in NMC Lecture Hall. This is one of the series, which accompanies the exhibition The Are of The Enlightenment.

Mr. Lu Zhangshen, Director, National Museumof China, and Mr. Michael Schwarz, Director, Center for International Affairs, Stiftung Mercator both made a welcoming speeches. The forum is co-chaired by Mr. Chen Lusheng, the NMC Vice Director; and Mr. Michael Kahn-Ackermann, Former Regional Director Goethe-Institute China, Senior Advisor to the Confucius Institute.


The forum invited the following speeches:

Professor Gan Yang, Dean, Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities, Sun Yat-sen University, his topic is “Enlightenment and Superstition”.


Professor Wolf Lepenies, Former Director, Institute for Advanced Study Berlin, Cultural Sociology and Historical Anthropology, Freie University Berlin (video), his topic is “The Enlightenment – Critique and Enthusiasm”.


The following professors attended the panel discussion:

Professor Hans-Jǜrgen Lǜsebrink, Chair of Romance Cultural Studies and Intercultural Communication, University of Saarbrǘcken.


Professor Hans Feger, Institute for Philosophy and Institute for German and Dutch Philology, Freie University Berlin.


Professor Zhao Tingyang, Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.


Professor Huang Ping, Director, Institute of American Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.


The last forum Dialogue V : Enlightenment and Cultures of Knowledge will be held in March 2012 at National Museum of China.
